Story

In 1977, heavy machinery operators in Minnesota and North Dakota wore these celloid buttons on their caps or jackets as proof of paid quarterly union dues. The accompanying brass fob stamped with 'Safety First' and a local phone number served as a proud everyday pocket piece for skilled tradesmen.

The International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) was founded in 1896, representing the heavy equipment operators and mechanics who built America's modern infrastructure. The four celluloid buttons are in remarkably well-preserved condition with crisp colors, minimal surface oxidation, and clear lettering.
