Overview
An elegant hand-blown art glass figurine of a standing stag, featuring striking blue and white internal swirl patterns. The piece showcases dramatic, stylized clear glass antlers and delicate applied glass eyes, capturing the fluid grace characteristic of mid-century art glass animals.
Story
Post-war tourists flocked to Venice in the 1950s and 60s, desperate to bring home a piece of Italian magic. This stylized stag, with its sweeping antlers, was designed to capture the light of a sunny modern living room.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, this piece is crafted in the distinct style of Murano glass houses like Seguso or Archimede Seguso, who popularized stylized glass fauna. During the mid-century, Japanese glassmakers also masterfully replicated these Venetian designs for the export market, creating highly collectible lookalikes.
Condition & Value
The figurine appears to be in good vintage condition with no visible chips or fractures on the highly vulnerable antler tips or delicate legs. The underside shows a rough pontil scar from where it was separated from the blowpipe, which is a normal artifact of hand-craftsmanship rather than damage.
