Overview
This is a nostalgic collection of fourteen vintage pulpboard beverage coasters representing iconic casual dining chains, regional microbreweries, and historic local watering holes. The assortment captures a transitional era in dining culture, featuring early branding from major chains alongside celebrated regional spots from Ohio, California, and Hawaii.
Story
In 1978, the very first Canadian Hard Rock Cafe opened in Toronto, kicking off a global expansion. This collection maps the geography of late-20th-century social life, from beachside California saloons to the early days of the craft beer revolution.
Maker / Origin
These coasters were produced by commercial pulpboard printers for promotional use. Notable establishments represented include Kona Brewing Co. (founded in Hawaii in 1994), Clyffside Brewing Co. (which revived the historic Cincinnati 'Felsenbrau' brand), and early iterations of household names like Chili's and Outback Steakhouse.
Condition & Value
The coasters show varying degrees of vintage wear consistent with use, including light water staining, edge wear, and minor discoloration on the pulpboard. The Outback and Chili's examples show some staining, while the Kona and Hard Rock coasters remain in relatively clean condition.
