Post-war sportfishing in Florida popularized fiberglass mounts over skin taxidermy. Anglers could photograph their catch, release it unharmed, and order an exact studio replica to mount above the fireplace.

Studios like King Sailfish Mounts and Gray Taxidermy pioneered synthetic gamefish replicas in South Florida during the late 20th century. By shifting from traditional skin mounts to high-detail fiberglass castings, these artisans perfected lifelike anatomical molds that would never rot, shrink, or fade like organic fish skin.
