An exceptional early 1970s vintage Zodiac automatic chronograph housed in a classic tonneau stainless steel case with matching signed bracelet. It features a striking 'reverse panda' dial with dual registers, date at 6 o'clock, and the iconic left-hand winding crown signature to the historic Caliber 11/12 micro-rotor movement.
Story
In 1969, an elite Swiss alliance secretly raced to build the world's first automatic chronograph, creating the legendary Caliber 11/12 movement. Because the micro-rotor left no room on the right, the crown was famously moved to the left side.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1882 by Ariste Calame in Le Locle, Switzerland, Zodiac became a powerhouse of horological innovation, renowned for robust tool watches like the Sea Wolf. During the late 1960s, Zodiac partnered with the Chronomatic consortium to house their groundbreaking automatic chronograph calibers in distinctive, racing-inspired cases.
Condition & Value
Very good original, honest vintage condition. The dial shows attractive patina with complete markers, hands, and clean subdials; the crystal has light surface scratches, the case shows typical vintage surface marks with original bevels visible, and the movement appears clean with intact gold plating.
