Overview
A striking pair of green pressed glass table pieces featuring the distinctive 'Wings' pattern (Line #100) with handles shaped like stylized angel wings. These pieces are made of uranium glass, which contains trace amounts of uranium oxide, giving them a vibrant neon glow under ultraviolet light.
Story
In the 1920s, Westmoreland Glass captured the Art Deco spirit with this 'Wings' pattern. Sold in Woolworth’s for pennies, these pieces contain real uranium oxide, causing them to glow a ghostly neon green under UV light.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1889, Westmoreland was led by Charles West, often called the 'Father of the Candy Container Industry.' While the company later became synonymous with milk glass, their 1920s colored glass remains a high-water mark of American Depression-era design.
Condition & Value
The photos show the glass in excellent condition with no visible chips or 'flea bites' on the rims or handles. The clarity of the glass is good, and the UV reaction is strong and consistent. Excellent condition typically commands the top end of the price range.
