Wajima craftspeople spend months layering natural urushi sap and diatomaceous earth before sprinkling pure gold dust. This charger captures the timeless Japanese motif of longevity and celestial elegance in radiant relief.
Maker / Origin
The piece represents a traditional division of labor: the lacquer base (nushi) was crafted by master Nakajima Chuhei, while the intricate raised gold decoration (maki-e shi) was executed by the artist Ryuson (柳村). Wajima lacquer is internationally celebrated as Japan's premier urushi tradition, relying on rigorous multi-stage collaboration.
