Overview
This is an exquisite set of five heavy crystal double old-fashioned tumblers, each featuring a meticulously detailed, acid-etched and engraved depiction of African safari wildlife. The set showcases a rhinoceros, a Cape buffalo, an elephant, a giraffe, and an antelope, set against a stylized landscape of acacia trees and flying birds.
Story
During the mid-20th century, European elite society became obsessed with the romance of the African safari. These glasses brought the thrill of the savanna directly into the mid-century cocktail hour, turning a simple drink into an exotic adventure.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1826 in an old abbey, Val Saint Lambert is the official glassware provider to the Belgian Royal Family. Renowned for its exceptionally clear, heavy lead crystal, the company became world-famous for combining traditional glassblowing with highly skilled wheel-engraving and acid-etching techniques.
Condition & Value
The crystal appears bright and clear with no obvious clouding, chips, or flea bites along the delicate rims. There is minor shelf wear on the polished bases, which is typical for vintage glassware and does not negatively impact value.
