Story

During the mid-1800s, traditional rocking chairs were notorious for 'creeping' across the floor and damaging the expensive, heavy carpets that were becoming popular in middle-class homes.

While this piece lacks a visible label, it is consistent with the work of major 19th-century innovators like George Hunzinger or the many firms in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Condition & Value

The wooden frame shows typical scuffing and wear consistent with age, particularly on the lower platform. The upholstery is not original but appears to be in good, clean condition. The value depends heavily on the tension and silence of the internal springs; if they squeak or lean, the value sits at the lower end.
