Story
Born Jascha Heifetz in Ukraine, the designer adopted the French-sounding pseudonym 'Georges Briard' in 1947 to sell high-end barware. By the 1960s, his gilded glassware was an absolute staple in fashionable suburban cocktail lounges across America.
Maker / Origin
Georges Briard was the trade name for Jascha Heifetz (1917–2006), a Russian-born artist who studied at the Art Institute of Chicago. He transformed ordinary commercial glassware into accessible art using screen-printed 22K gold foil and enamel designs. His signature became a mark of chic mid-century style, winning him the Museum of Modern Art Design Award in 1952.
