Overview
A standard circulation Australian two-dollar coin featuring the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse and an Aboriginal Elder on the reverse. Introduced in 1988 to replace the two-dollar note, this gold-colored coin is made of aluminum-bronze.
Story
Australia switched from paper to metal for the $2 denomination in 1988. The design honors Gwoya Tjungurrayi, an Anmatyerr man who became the first Aboriginal person to appear on an Australian stamp in 1950.
Maker / Origin
The Royal Australian Mint opened in 1965 and was the first mint in Australia not to be a branch of the Royal Mint in London. It is responsible for producing all of Australia's circulating coinage.
Condition & Value
The coin shows significant circulation wear and surface dulling. There is no evidence of the 'HH' initials or specific errors visible in these photos. Condition is typical for pocket change, which keeps value at face level. Standard circulation coins are generally worth face value ($2 AUD, approx $1.35 USD).
