Overview
A collection of vintage aviation lithographs featuring the dramatic artwork of Charles H. Hubbell, commissioned by Thompson Products (later TRW). These prints showcase early Cold War-era military aircraft, complete with technical specifications printed along the bottom margins. The set is housed in a vintage 'Ambassador Vinyl Siding' sample carrying case used by a traveling salesman.
Story
Commissioned in 1950, these prints captured the dawn of the jet age when breaking the sound barrier was the ultimate frontier. Thompson Products distributed these annual calendars to showcase the cutting-edge aircraft using their engine valves and components. This specific set found a second life inside a mid-century siding salesman's sample case.
Maker / Origin
Charles H. Hubbell (1898–1971) was one of America's premier aviation artists, famed for his meticulous technical accuracy and dramatic sky backdrops. Over three decades, he painted more than 370 oils for Thompson Products, creating a visual encyclopedia of flight that decorated the walls of pilots, veterans, and aviation enthusiasts worldwide.
Condition & Value
The lithographs show some edge wear, minor corner creasing, and small pinholes in the corners from previous display. The vintage 'Ambassador' carrying case shows heavy exterior scuffing, scratches, and wear consistent with its use as a commercial sample box, but it remains structurally intact.
