Maker / Origin
Wajima-nuri traces its history back over 500 years in Ishikawa Prefecture, renowned for using raw lacquer reinforced with diatomaceous earth (jinoko). This multi-layered process creates an indestructible core topped with brilliant mirror-like surfaces. Artisans who apply maki-e (sprinkled gold powder decoration) spend decades mastering the precise relief carving and dusting techniques seen here.
Condition & Value
The lacquer trays appear in very fine condition with bright gold maki-e and minimal surface wear. The original wooden storage box shows expected age-related wear, light scuffing, and minor lacquer loss at the bottom rim, which is typical and does not severely impact the value of the trays themselves.
