Overview
A beautiful, utilitarian set of five nesting circular trays hand-woven from split bamboo. These trays feature a classic checkerboard weave pattern on the flat surface, reinforced with thick, split-bamboo coiled rims bound together with fine cane or bamboo splints.
Story
Woven bamboo trays like these have been the backbone of Asian agricultural life for centuries. Farmers used them to sun-dry grains, sift rice, and sort tea leaves in the breeze. This nesting set brings that timeless, organic utility straight into the modern home.
Maker / Origin
While these trays do not bear an individual maker's mark, they represent a highly skilled, multi-generational cottage industry of bamboo weaving. In rural weaving villages across East and Southeast Asia, artisans split raw bamboo culms by hand into incredibly precise, paper-thin strips using specialized knives, a craft requiring years of muscle memory.
Condition & Value
The trays are in very good vintage condition with a warm, natural patina. There is minor fraying and a loose binding strip on the rim of the second-largest tray, which is very common for organic woven materials. This minor wear reduces the set's value by approximately 10-15% but does not impact their decorative appeal.
