This is a hand-hammered and deeply chased tinned copper covered bowl, traditionally known as a *tas* or *kasa*. The vessel is profusely decorated with engraved calligraphic cartouches, scrolling arabesques, floral medallions, and figurative fauna, resting on a flared foot and fitted with a domed, finialed lid.

Centuries of Islamic coppersmithing converged in grand covered bowls like this, used for food service, communal banquets, or ritual hamam baths. The tin coating protected diners from copper toxicity while giving the piece the gleam of silver.
Maker / Origin
Crafted by skilled traditional coppersmiths (*coppersmiths/coppersmithing guilds*, or *kazancı* in Ottoman Turkish), such vessels were made in prominent metalworking centers across Istanbul, Damascus, Cairo, or Isfahan. Artisans used small chisels and punches to chase intricate verses and motifs by hand.
Condition & Value
Good antique condition with honest age-appropriate wear. The original tinned surface has thinned across high-contact areas, showing the underlying copper, with natural oxidation and verdigris inside the basin. This authentic patina is desirable to collectors and supports its value.
