Overview
This is a large, hand-painted Japanese sometsuke (underglaze blue) porcelain basin featuring auspicious pine, bamboo, and plum motifs ('Three Friends of Winter') alongside arabesque scrolls (karakusa). It comes preserved in a custom fitted paulownia wood storage box (tomobako) secured with traditional cord.

Maker / Origin
Arita in Hizen province was the epicenter of Japanese porcelain production since the early 17th century. Kilns in this region perfected cobalt underglaze painting, supplying high-quality utilitarian and decorative ceramics for both elite domestic households and international export markets.

Appears to be in very good antique condition with no obvious rim chips or structural cracks visible. Typical kiln imperfections, minor glaze kiln spots, and spur marks consistent with traditional production methods.
