Overview
An exceptional American Renaissance Revival walnut parlor table featuring a beautifully figured octagonal top. The piece is supported by four dramatically turned baluster legs resting on block feet, joined by an elegant X-stretcher with a central turned finial.
Story
In the 1870s, wealthy Americans rejected simple furniture for grand, historical styles. This table brought the drama of 16th-century Italian palaces into Gilded Age parlor rooms, serving as a focal point for high-society tea and conversation.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, this table exhibits the high-quality design and turnings associated with premier Gilded Age manufacturers like Kimbel & Cabus or Herter Brothers of New York, or high-end Grand Rapids makers who popularized the Renaissance Revival style for the American middle class.
Condition & Value
The table appears to be in very good antique condition. There is minor surface wear, light scratching, and small nicks consistent with age, particularly on the lower block feet. The original finish has developed a lovely warm patina, and the structural joinery of the stretcher remains intact.
