Overview
A beautifully preserved, pocket-sized lithographed tin container designed to hold 'Ivory Brand' Royal No. 10 non-grease typewriter ribbons. Featuring a striking teal-blue base color with deep navy blue Art Deco typography and scrollwork, this tin represents the golden age of office machinery accessories.
Story
In the early 20th century, Rochester, New York was a booming global hub of photography and office technology. Kee Lox manufactured these specialized tins to protect delicate, ink-saturated typewriter ribbons from drying out in busy offices.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1899 by Charles P. Schmid and Winfield P. Pembroke, the Kee Lox Manufacturing Company became a pioneer in carbon paper and typewriter ribbon technology. They patented unique non-grease formulas that kept typed documents looking crisp, eventually growing into a major international supplier with offices worldwide.
Condition & Value
The tin is in very good vintage condition with minor surface scratches, light oxidation along the rims, and some paint loss on the lower front where 'Black Record' is stamped. The lithographed graphics remain sharp and highly legible, and the metal has avoided major denting.
