Overview

A heavy, mold-blown art glass vase featuring a deep emerald green hue and a rugged, organic 'bark' texture. This style represents the Brutalist movement in glass, where designers moved away from smooth surfaces…

Story

During the late 1960s, a design revolution took place in European glassworks as artists began to reject the 'perfect' polished look of traditional crystal.

Maker / Origin

While several factories produced textured glass, Ingrid Glashütte of West Germany became a leader in this 'Exquisit' style of relief-molded glass.

Condition & Value

The glass appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips to the high-relief texture. The rim looks smooth and the base shows appropriate light wear consistent with age. Excellent condition in these textured pieces is vital, as the 'peaks' of the texture are prone to flea bites. This example appears well-preserved.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
