Overview
This is a classic Florentine jardinière, featuring a textured, bark-like body accented by panels of cascading fruit and foliage. Introduced in 1924, this line represents Roseville's transition from the strict Arts and Crafts aesthetic toward more ornate, European-inspired motifs.
Story
In 1924, Ohio potters looked to the Italian Renaissance for inspiration. They created this 'Florentine' line to bring Old World elegance into American middle-class parlors. It survived the Great Depression in a family home.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1890, Roseville Pottery became a titan of the American Art Pottery movement. Under the artistic direction of Frank Ferrell, they mastered the 'commercial art' niche, blending mass production with hand-finished glazing that made high design accessible to everyone.
Condition & Value
The glaze appears well-preserved with no obvious large chips or cracks visible in the photo. There is some typical light crazing consistent with age. Excellent condition for this line can increase value by 20%. Value is driven by the size of the jardinière and the crispness of the mold.
