Overview
A magnificent, large-scale Japanese porcelain ovoid vase featuring a vibrant hand-painted design of blooming chrysanthemums. It showcases the signature Fukagawa deep cobalt blue underglaze paired with delicate overglaze enamels and exquisite gold-gilt detailing around the rim and collar.
Story
Founded in 1894, Fukagawa Seiji revolutionized Japanese porcelain by blending ancient Arita techniques with a modern sensibility. This vase captures the imperial elegance of the chrysanthemum, a symbol of longevity and royalty, rendered in their world-famous 'Fukagawa Blue'.
Maker / Origin
Fukagawa Seiji was established by Chuji Fukagawa in Arita, the birthplace of Japanese porcelain. The company won the Grand Prix at the 1900 Paris Exposition and was appointed as an official purveyor to the Japanese Imperial Household in 1910, a prestigious status they maintain to this day.
Condition & Value
The vase appears to be in excellent vintage condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations. The gold gilding along the rim and the delicate gold outlines on the chrysanthemum petals show virtually no wear, which greatly preserves its value.
