Overview

A finely decorated porcelain dish featuring the classic imperial 'Nine Peaches' motif alongside iron-red bats. The underside bears a double-ring apocryphal six-character Yongzheng reign mark in underglaze blue, rendered in a style popular in late Qing and Republic-era revivals.

Story

Peaches and bats form a visual pun in Chinese art. Together, the 'nine peaches' and 'five bats' represent a wish for 'nine-fold longevity' and 'five blessings' of health, wealth, virtue, long life, and a peaceful death.

Maker / Origin

While bearing a Yongzheng imperial mark, this piece was likely created by highly skilled 20th-century artisans in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. These workshops specialized in reviving the incredibly complex, delicate enamel techniques of the 18th-century imperial court.

Condition & Value

The porcelain and enamel decoration appear to be in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or major wear to the delicate overglaze enamels. Excellent condition preserves the maximum decorative and collector value. Value is driven by the quality of the hand-painting and the age of the porcelain body.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
