Overview
This is a classic vintage Cabbage Patch Kids doll featuring the highly recognizable 1984 green Xavier Roberts signature on her left buttock. She comes dressed in a green and white cheerleader-style outfit complete with her original translucent yellow pacifier. This doll represents the height of the 1980s toy craze that changed the retail landscape forever.
Story
In 1983, a toy shortage caused literal riots in department stores across America. Parents fought in aisles to secure one of these 'adoptable' babies, which came with unique names and birth certificates. This 1984 survivor still retains her signature pacifier, a miracle of preservation.
Maker / Origin
Originally created as hand-stitched 'Little People' by artist Xavier Roberts in 1978, the design was licensed to Coleco in 1982. Coleco transformed the soft-sculptured fabric faces into vinyl heads while keeping the soft, huggable fabric bodies. This hybrid design allowed for mass production while retaining the handmade charm that made them famous.
Condition & Value
The doll is in very good vintage condition with clean fabric, intact yarn hair, and a legible 1984 Xavier Roberts signature. The original pacifier is present, which is rare, though the elastic in the clothing shows typical light aging. Excellent preservation of the vinyl face with no major scuffs or 'pox' marks.
