Overview
A striking three-piece collection of monumental studio pottery vessels featuring dramatic raku-fired surfaces. The set is anchored by an extraordinary, towering central floor urn with a ribbed, spire-like neck, flanked by two complementary lidded and open-mouthed vessels showcasing rich copper-matte flashes and crackle glazes.
Story
Handcrafted during the height of the American Studio Ceramics movement, these vessels were born from fire and thermal shock. The dramatic, smoky black lines and metallic copper lusters are the direct result of pulling red-hot clay from a kiln and burying it in combustible materials.
Maker / Origin
Alex Long is a recognized American studio ceramicist celebrated for mastering large-scale, architectural raku vessels. His work is characterized by a sophisticated balance of structured, wheel-thrown geometry and the wild, unpredictable painterly effects of reduction firing.
Condition & Value
The vessels appear to be in excellent structural condition with no visible cracks or major chips outside of the intentional, artistic raku crazing. The delicate nature of raku glaze makes checking the rims and the tall spire's tip for minor fleabites essential, as pristine condition preserves the maximum value.
