Overview
This is an original BG-65 concert poster designed by artist J. MacLean for a historic Bill Graham presentation at the Fillmore Auditorium. Featuring Big Brother and the Holding Company (with Janis Joplin) and the Steve Miller Blues Band, it is a quintessential artifact of the Summer of Love.
Story
In May 1967, just weeks before the Summer of Love exploded, San Francisco's youth gathered at the Fillmore. This poster advertised a legendary pairing of Janis Joplin's raw vocals with Steve Miller's tight blues rhythms.
Maker / Origin
Designed by J. MacLean, this poster represents the highly stylized, illustrative approach to psychedelic art. MacLean merged classical, Byzantine-style portraiture with vibrant, eye-popping fluorescent pink inks to capture the mind-bending energy of the era's music scene.
Condition & Value
The poster appears to be in good condition and is framed, which has helped preserve it. There is no obvious major fading to the delicate pink ink, though it must be inspected out of the frame for hidden pinholes, tape residue, or edge tears. Excellent preservation of the fluorescent ink commands a premium.
