Overview
A charming hand-painted bisque porcelain figurine depicting a Victorian-style lady in a wide-brimmed hat carrying a basket of flowers. This piece features the soft, matte finish characteristic of bisque, designed to mimic the high-end European porcelain of the 18th century.
Story
Post-WWII Japan became a hub for high-quality porcelain exports to America. George Zoltan Lefton, a Hungarian immigrant in Chicago, saw this potential and began importing these romanticized figures to decorate suburban homes.
Maker / Origin
George Zoltan Lefton founded his company in 1941, eventually becoming known as the 'China King.' He worked closely with Japanese factories to ensure high standards of hand-painting, making his wares a staple of mid-century giftware.
Condition & Value
The figurine appears to be in good vintage condition. There is some visible surface grime and minor scuffing on the hem of the skirt. The delicate flowers appear intact, which is rare for these pieces. Condition is average for its age. Lefton figurines are widely collected but plentiful.
