Story

Post-war American suburbs exploded in the 1950s, moving the living room outdoors to the patio. Hostesses needed clever, lightweight ways to carry highball glasses from the kitchen to the deck, sparking a boom in wire caddies.

Maker / Origin

While often unsigned, these wire housewares were produced by prolific mid-century manufacturers such as Artistic Wire Products, Royal Chrome, or various Ohio-based metalworks. These companies pivoted from wartime manufacturing to creating affordable, stylish consumer goods that defined the look of the modern American home.

Condition & Value

The carrier shows moderate wear consistent with age, including some pitting, tarnish, and loss to the brass plating, as well as minor scuffs on the wooden handle. There do not appear to be any broken welds or bent wires. Cleaning the brass will improve its look, but preserving some patina is preferred by many collectors.
