Overview
A pair of striking ruby red cut-to-clear glass decanters featuring a classic Bohemian grape, leaf, and vine wheel-carved motif. These vessels showcase the traditional double-layered glass technique, where a rich cranberry-red outer layer is meticulously carved away to reveal the brilliant clear crystal beneath.
Story
In the 1800s, Bohemian glassmakers perfected the art of 'flashing' glass with a microscopic layer of gold-infused ruby red. These decanters carry on that exact royal tradition, designed to make poured wine look like glowing liquid jewels.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, these pieces are crafted in the historic style of Egermann or other prominent Bohemian glassworks in the Nový Bor region. For centuries, these specialized workshops have passed down the secrets of high-precision copper-wheel engraving from master to apprentice.
Condition & Value
The decanters appear to be in very good vintage condition with vibrant color and crisp engraving. The clear stopper on the larger decanter should be checked for micro-chipping along the ground peg, as chips to the stoppers or rims can reduce the value of glass sets by 30-50%.
