Overview
This is a rare, historically significant military training pamphlet created during World War II to warn soldiers about the dangers of malaria-carrying mosquitoes. It features the unmistakable, whimsical, yet dark illustrations of Theodor Geisel, better known to the world as Dr. Seuss.
Story
In 1943, the US military faced a silent enemy more devastating than combat: malaria. To save lives, the War Department enlisted Dr. Seuss to create 'Ann' (short for Anopheles), a seductive, deadly mosquito cartoon.
Maker / Origin
Theodor Seuss Geisel, famously known as Dr. Seuss, joined the war effort in 1943 as a captain in the U.S. Army's Signal Corps. Working alongside legendary filmmakers like Frank Capra, Geisel wrote and illustrated training manuals, pamphlets, and documentary films.
Condition & Value
The cover shows light toning consistent with age and minor handling wear along the edges. There is a small spot of discoloration on the left margin. To preserve its value, it should be kept in an acid-free sleeve away from direct sunlight. Value is driven by the crossover appeal to WWII military collectors and Dr. Seuss enthusiasts.
