Overview
A fine collection of three classic American cowboy hats, featuring two high-quality fur felt hats (one in a rich black, one in a warm silver-belly/tan) and one finely woven straw hat. Two of the hats retain their original, iconic cow-print Resistol 'best all-around' presentation boxes, which are highly collectible in their own right.
Story
Texas-based Resistol revolutionized western wear in the 1920s by making hats that literally 'resisted all' weather. This trio represents the classic working wardrobe of a stylish rancher, transitioning seamlessly from summer straw to winter felt. Finding them preserved with their original graphic cow-print boxes is a true collector's treat.
Maker / Origin
Founded in 1927 by Harry Rolnick and E.R. Byer in Dallas, Texas, Resistol became legendary for its 'Self-Conforming' leather sweatband, which allowed the hat to mold perfectly to the wearer's head shape. The company's commitment to quality made it the preferred brand for rodeo champions, movie stars, and US Presidents alike, establishing Garland, Texas as a global capital of hat-making.
Condition & Value
All three hats appear to be in excellent, well-preserved condition with no obvious staining, moth damage to the felt, or broken weaves on the straw. The original cardboard boxes show minor edge wear but remain structurally sound with vibrant graphics. Excellent condition on vintage western wear commands a premium.
