Overview
A silver-toned devotional pendant featuring the Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception, based on the 1830 visions of Saint Catherine Labouré. The reverse displays the 'M' surmounted by a cross, two hearts, and twelve stars, which are the traditional hallmarks of this specific Catholic sacramental.
Story
In 1830, a novice in Paris reported a vision of Mary framed by the words 'O Mary, conceived without sin...' This design became so popular during a cholera epidemic that it was dubbed the 'Miraculous Medal' by the public.
Maker / Origin
While the original medals were struck by the goldsmith Adrien Vachette, this modern version follows the strict iconographic template required for it to be considered a true Miraculous Medal. Most contemporary examples are produced in specialized Catholic devotional workshops in Italy or Rhode Island.
Condition & Value
The pendant shows minor surface wear and some darkening in the recessed areas, which actually helps the design pop. The chain appears to be a standard stainless steel or plated cable chain. Condition is good for a daily-wear item. Excellent condition commands a premium.
