Overview

An exquisite Chinese porcelain dish decorated in the classic 'Famille Rose' (Fencai) palette, featuring the traditional imperial motif of fruiting peach branches and red bats. The design beautifully wraps over the rim onto the exterior wall, a sophisticated composition style known as 'over-the-wall' (Guozhi), and bears a double-ring Yongzheng reign mark on the base.

Story

Centuries of imperial symbolism are captured on this porcelain surface. The combination of nine peaches and five red bats forms a visual pun representing the ultimate blessing: 'May you possess both longevity and boundless good fortune.' This specific design was pioneered for the Yongzheng Emperor, who was obsessed with auspicious omens.

Maker / Origin

While bearing the six-character mark of the Yongzheng Emperor (who ruled from 1723-1735), this dish is a high-quality later homage. Jingdezhen's master porcelain painters of the 20th century dedicated their lives to replicating the pinnacle achievements of the Qing Dynasty, keeping imperial-level techniques alive through turbulent historical eras.

Condition & Value

The dish appears to be in excellent condition with no visible cracks, chips, or major enamel loss. The gilding and enamel colors remain vibrant and well-preserved. Excellent condition is critical for maintaining value in Chinese revival porcelain. Value is driven by the quality of the hand-painting and the age of the porcelain.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
