Overview
This is a classic 12-inch action figure set from the legendary 'Best of the West' series by Marx Toys, featuring Chief Cherokee and his trusty horse, Comanche. Made of durable, injection-molded plastic, these figures were revolutionary for their articulation and the sheer volume of detailed, snap-on soft plastic accessories.
Story
In 1965, toy pioneer Louis Marx launched a line of highly articulated Western figures to rival G.I. Joe. Chief Cherokee debuted in 1967, offering a remarkably respectful and detailed representation for the era. This set includes a massive assortment of gear, from bows and rifles to ceremonial headdresses.
Maker / Origin
Louis Marx & Company, founded in 1919, was once the largest toy company in the world, with Louis Marx himself dubbed 'The Toy King' by Time magazine in 1955. Marx's philosophy was to give consumers 'more toy for less money,' which led to incredibly rich accessory packs and durable designs.
Condition & Value
The figures show light play wear and minor scuffs consistent with age. One of Comanche's legs appears to be detached but present. The accessories are in good vintage condition without major splits in the soft plastic, though some typical discoloration is present. Complete, undamaged accessories greatly preserve the overall value.
