Overview
This is an authentic turn-of-the-century architectural stained and leaded glass window, originally installed as a transom or entryway sidelight. It features caramel and amber slag art glass field panels bordered by stylized floral or foliate motifs in green and amethyst glass set within lead came and its original painted wooden sash.
Story
Around 1900, American entryways transformed as opalescent slag glass caught the evening sun. Hand-cut art glass pieces were bound in lead to turn simple home doorways into warm, glowing works of art.
Maker / Origin
While likely crafted by a regional architectural glass studio rather than a single named artist, windows like this were custom-ordered from pattern books of prominent millwork and art glass firms of the era, such as Belcher Mosaic Glass Co. or regional Midwestern and East Coast glasshouses.
Condition & Value
The leaded glass panel appears intact with attractive natural patina, housed in its original weathered wooden sash with chippy white paint. Minor lead came fatigue and frame wear typical of architectural salvage. Preserving the intact glass panels without breaks is key to maintaining full value.
