Overview
A miniature waterside world wraps around this apparently hand-painted porcelain bowl: sailing boats, mountain peaks, trees, and elaborate pavilion roofs. Measuring 21.3 cm across and 9.4 cm high, it has gold-colored repairs, a blue seal-style base mark, and an accompanying inscribed wooden box.
Story
In Japan, Chinese blue-and-white porcelain was treasured as “Nankin” ware. This bowl’s Japanese box and conspicuous repairs suggest a second life as a cherished possession—not simply a vessel discarded when it broke.
Maker / Origin
The maker is unidentified, but the decoration belongs to the long blue-and-white porcelain tradition of translating landscape painting into objects for everyday use and display. Japanese collectors often supplied valued imported ceramics with fitted wooden storage boxes.
Condition & Value
Several gold-colored repaired breaks run from the rim into the body, with additional filled or coated areas along the rim. Their materials, age, and stability cannot be established from photographs; the extensive repairs reduce conventional porcelain resale value.
