Overview
A striking example of Mid-Century Modern lighting featuring a biomorphic, hand-carved walnut body that spirals around a central brass stem. The base is uniquely accented with inset mosaic tiles, blending organic wood tones with the geometric 'Atomic Age' aesthetic.
Story
Post-war designers moved away from rigid lines toward 'organic modernism.' This lamp captures the 1960s obsession with space-age silhouettes and natural materials, designed to bring warmth to the sleek, glass-walled homes of the era.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned, the fluid, sculptural quality is highly characteristic of Modeline of California or the Laurel Lamp Company. These firms were pioneers in 'functional art,' turning everyday household objects into conversation pieces that mirrored the abstract sculpture movements of the mid-20th century.
Condition & Value
The wood appears well-preserved with a nice patina; the brass shows some expected oxidation. The original shade (still in plastic) is a rare find, though the plastic should be removed to prevent heat damage to the fabric. Condition is excellent for its age. Mid-century lighting is currently in high demand.
