Overview
A beautiful, hand-painted porcelain mayonnaise or whipped cream serving set consisting of a double-handled footed bowl and its matching original ladle. It features a delicate wild rose motif rendered in soft pastels, accented by heavy, raised moriage-style gilding on the handles and rim.
Story
During the Gilded Age, elaborate luncheons required highly specialized serving dishes for every single condiment. This exquisite set was crafted in Japan specifically for the Western dining table, turning a simple dollop of mayonnaise into a theatrical culinary event.
Maker / Origin
The green 'M-in-Wreath' mark on the underside denotes the Morimura Brothers, the visionary exporters who established the brand that would eventually become the world-renowned Noritake. Operating out of Nagoya, they combined traditional Japanese craftsmanship with Western shapes to conquer the global luxury market.
Condition & Value
The porcelain appears to be free of major cracks or chips. There is some expected light shelf wear on the unglazed foot rim of the bowl, and minor wear to the gold gilding on the handles and ladle rim from handling. Having both pieces survive together is excellent.
