Persian Hamadan Area Rug

Story

Woven in the ancient mountain villages of western Iran, this rug's deep ruby red was achieved using local madder root dyes. Its intricate 'Herati' pattern represents small fish swimming around water lilies, a traditional symbol of water and life in arid landscapes.

Maker / Origin

Rather than a single commercial factory, this rug was crafted by village weavers in the Hamadan province, one of the oldest continuously active weaving centers in the world. These weavers worked from memory rather than printed patterns, passing down their geometric motifs and dye recipes through generations of families.

Condition & Value

The rug appears to be in very good vintage condition with even pile wear and intact fringe ends. No major staining, dry rot, or moth damage is visible from the photo, though a professional cleaning would enhance the vibrancy of the natural dyes.
