Overview
An original oil landscape painting on board depicting a classic Florida wetland sunset scene with a palm tree, Spanish moss, and water reflections. The piece features the signature 'W. DANIELS' in the lower right corner, characteristic of the celebrated Florida Highwaymen artist Willie Daniels.
Story
In Jim Crow-era Florida, a group of 26 self-taught Black artists defied social barriers by painting vibrant landscapes and selling them from their car trunks. Willie Daniels was one of these legendary 'Highwaymen,' capturing the raw, untouched beauty of the Florida coast.
Maker / Origin
Willie Daniels (1950–2021) was one of the original members of the Florida Highwaymen, inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame in 2004. Known for his dramatic use of light, quick palette knife work, and moody skies, Daniels spent decades capturing the state's rapidly disappearing wilderness.
Condition & Value
The painting appears to be in excellent condition with vibrant colors and no visible paint loss or cracking. It is housed in a modern, rustic wooden frame that complements the natural tones of the landscape. Excellent preservation of the paint surface helps maintain its peak market value.
