Overview
A striking example of pressed glass featuring the iconic 'Moon and Star' pattern in a vibrant Amberina colorway. This lidded canister showcases a fiery gradient that transitions from a deep ruby red at the top to a warm golden amber at the base.
Story
The 'Moon and Star' pattern debuted in the 1880s but found its true fame in the 1960s. This specific Amberina glow was achieved by adding gold or selenium to the glass and reheating it to pull out those sunset hues.
Maker / Origin
L.E. Smith was one of the few American glass houses to survive the Great Depression, eventually becoming a leader in decorative mid-century glassware. They were masters of the 'reheat' technique, which allowed them to create the dramatic color shifts seen in their Amberina line.
Condition & Value
The glass appears vibrant with no obvious clouding or 'sick glass' syndrome. The lid seems to be a proper match, though the inner flange should be inspected for small chips. Excellent clarity and color saturation maintain its value. Amberina is a popular colorway for collectors, though the market is currently stable.
