Overview
A beautifully hand-painted rectangular porcelain planter (jardinière) featuring vibrant Famille Rose enamels. The exterior panels are adorned with auspicious motifs of a phoenix amidst blooming peonies, framed by traditional ruyi-head and key-fret borders.
Story
Peonies and phoenixes have symbolized royalty, wealth, and high status in Chinese culture for over a thousand years. This planter was designed to bring those exact blessings directly into a scholar's garden or wealthy household.
Maker / Origin
While unsigned by a specific artist, this piece was crafted in the historic kiln networks of Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of the world. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these workshops transitioned from imperial production to high-quality wares for a rising global and domestic merchant class.
Condition & Value
The planter appears to be in good antique condition with no major cracks or structural repairs visible. There is typical wear to the unglazed feet, minor firing flaws (pinholes and kiln grit) from the original firing, and light interior staining from historical use. This authentic wear does not detract from the value.
