Overview
This is a boxed set of six mid-century steak knives featuring stainless steel blades, chrome bolsters, and cream faux-bone composite handles with embossed oak leaf and acorn metal inlays. Complete with their fitted presentation box, they represent the boom of Japanese specialty cutlery manufactured for Western export.
Story
Postwar Japanese cutlers in ancient sword-making hubs pivoted to the growing mid-century American dining table. These knives paired durable stainless steel with traditional European hunting and oak-leaf motifs for casual entertaining.
Maker / Origin
While unbranded beyond 'JAPAN' and 'STAINLESS STEEL', sets like this were predominantly manufactured in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, an 800-year-old cutlery center renowned for sword making that modernized into an international cutlery export powerhouse in the 1960s.
Condition & Value
Very good vintage condition overall. The blades appear clean with minor surface scuffs, the handle inlays are intact, and the fitted wooden storage box is preserved with minor exterior shelf wear. Having the complete 6-piece set with its box supports top-of-range value.
