Story
A legendary carp swims up the Yellow River, leaping the Dragon Gate falls to transform into a celestial dragon. Japanese Edo and Meiji potters turned this myth into striking porcelain, made even more prized by its fitted wooden tomobako storage box.
Maker / Origin
Produced in the famed ceramic center of Arita in southern Japan, this bowl represents the sophisticated multi-kiln collaboration of the region. Arita potters perfected both porcelain body formulation and complex multi-stage firing techniques, often producing 'Wanli-style' wares to supply the refined tastes of domestic connoisseurs and tea masters.
