Overview
This finely potted Japanese Imari porcelain bowl features vibrant polychrome overglaze enamels and gilding over underglaze cobalt blue. The exterior and interior walls are adorned with an intricate diamond-lattice diaper ground surrounding bold iron-red roundels depicting playful Chinese boys (karako), anchored by an underglaze blue diaper rim and a scrolling central interior medallion.

During the Edo period, Japanese potters at Arita created vibrant export wares that captivated Europe. This piece features 'karako' (playful boys), a classic motif symbolizing joy, family prosperity, and a long lineage.
Maker / Origin
Produced in the famed porcelain kilns of Arita in modern Saga Prefecture, these wares were transported via the port of Imari. Japanese artisans often inscribed an apocryphal Chinese Ming Dynasty mark ('Dai Ming Wanli Nian Zhi') on the base not to deceive, but as a prestigious tribute to Chinese imperial craftsmanship.
Condition & Value
Appears in very good antique condition consistent with age, showing slight rubbing to the overglaze red enamel and gilt highlights, and expected kiln grit or minor foot wear. Intact condition preserves maximum value.
