Overview

An elegant, ice-blue pressed glass footed dish featuring the iconic, undulating ripple design of the 'Caprice' pattern. This piece showcases a beautifully scalloped rim, a molded ribbed stem, and a matching ruffled foot that catches the light like moving water.

Story

Introduced in 1936, the Caprice line was designed to mimic the fluid motion of ocean waves. This Moonlight Blue colorway brought a cool, serene elegance to American dining tables during the recovery years of the Great Depression.

Maker / Origin

The Cambridge Glass Company, founded in Ohio in 1901, became world-renowned for its high-quality 'Elegant Glass' which required extensive hand-finishing. Unlike cheaper 'Depression Glass' of the era, Cambridge pieces were fire-polished to remove mold marks and create a brilliant, crystal-like luster.

Condition & Value

The glass appears to be in excellent vintage condition with great clarity, no visible cloudiness, and no obvious chips or flea bites along the delicate scalloped edges. Excellent condition preserves the maximum collector value.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
