Overview
This is a decorative hardstone bi disc carved in imitation of ancient Chinese ritual jade. One side features stylized archaic seal script characters arranged in concentric bands, while the reverse displays traditional geometric scrollwork and stylized cloud motifs.
Story
Dating back to the Neolithic Liangzhu culture, circular bi discs represented heaven and the infinite universe. This modern interpretation uses ancient seal script to evoke the mystery and scholarly prestige of China's imperial past.
Maker / Origin
While the specific workshop is anonymous, this piece comes from the long-standing Chinese lapidary tradition of replicating ancient ritual objects. Throughout the 20th century, artisans in regional carving centers kept these ancient forms alive for the global decorative market.
Condition & Value
The disc appears to be in very good condition with no visible cracks, major chips, or deep scratches. The speckled, pitted texture is intentional to simulate aged stone. Excellent preservation of the carved details. Value is driven primarily by decorative appeal, size, and weight rather than antiquity.
