Overview

A classic American collectible set featuring a custom-engineered two-tier black wrought iron display stand. It houses two hand-woven maple wood baskets, complete with their original fabric liners, plastic protectors, and wooden dividers.

Story

In Dresden, Ohio, Dave Longaberger built an empire on a simple, hand-woven maple basket. By the late 1990s, these baskets became a cultural phenomenon, transforming humble storage into highly sought-after home decor status symbols.

Maker / Origin

The Longaberger Company was founded in 1973 by Dave Longaberger, who revived his father's traditional basket-weaving craft. At its peak, the company employed thousands of artisans in Ohio, famously constructing its headquarters in the shape of a giant picnic basket.

Condition & Value

The set appears to be in excellent vintage condition. The fabric liners show vibrant color without obvious fading, the plastic protectors are intact, and the wrought iron stand shows no significant paint loss or rusting. Excellent condition with all original accessories commands the higher end of the value range.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
