Overview
This is a continuous opera-length Art Deco flapper necklace featuring molded, two-tone art glass beads in vibrant cobalt blue, terracotta orange, and distressed white with contrasting green washes in the carved recesses. Produced during the height of the 1920s Egyptian Revival craze, these beads showcase the pinnacle of Bohemian glass pressed-mold and wash-glazing techniques.
Story
Following Howard Carter's 1922 discovery of King Tut's tomb, Czech glassmakers flooded the world with exotic carved beads, turning ancient Egyptian motifs into wearable Jazz Age glamour.
Maker / Origin
The northern Bohemian region of Jablonec nad Nisou (Gablonz) served as the world capital of art glass and costume jewelry in the early 20th century. Highly skilled cottage-industry glassmakers pressed molten glass into intricate metal molds, applying specialty chemical washes and pigments to create distinctive, high-end looks for international fashion houses.
Condition & Value
The glass elements appear remarkably well-preserved with sharp molded definition and intact colored wash in the recesses. Minor surface wear and natural antique softening are consistent with age; condition is overall very good and supports mid-to-high comp pricing.
