Overview
These are charming, pocket-sized porcelain figurines known as 'Whimsies,' specifically the blue geese and brown animals visible here. Originally launched in the 1950s, these solid-pour porcelain miniatures became a global collecting phenomenon.
Story
In 1953, Sir George Wade launched these tiny treasures to keep his pottery kilns running during slow periods. They became so iconic that Red Rose Tea began tucking them into tea boxes in 1967, sparking a worldwide hunting craze.
Maker / Origin
Wade Ceramics was a titan of the British pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent, founded in 1810. While they made high-end industrial ceramics and decanters, they are most beloved for these 'Whimsies,' which proved that great design could be accessible to everyone.
Condition & Value
The figurines appear to be in good condition with no visible chips to the delicate beaks or tails. Any small 'flea bites' on the base would reduce individual value by half. Excellent preservation of the blue glaze.
