Overview

This is a classic Coach dome satchel crafted from durable pebbled leather in a versatile taupe hue. Featuring structured rolled top handles, a secure zip-around closure, and the iconic gold-tone Coach carriage plaque, it represents the brand's signature blend of everyday utility and polished New York style.

Story

In 1941, six artisans in a Manhattan loft began crafting wallets inspired by the supple feel of worn baseball gloves. Decades later, this dome satchel carries that same dedication to durable, touchable leather into the modern era.

Maker / Origin

Coach began as a family-run workshop called Manhattan Leather Bags, founded by Lillian and Miles Cahn. Miles was famously fascinated by the wear properties of baseball glove leather, which led to the development of their signature glove-tanned leather. Under visionary designer Bonnie Cashin in the 1960s, the brand revolutionized American accessory design with bright colors and brass hardware.

Condition & Value

The bag shows light wear consistent with gentle use, particularly some minor softening of the leather structure and slight darkening on the underside of the handles. The hardware retains its gold-tone finish with minimal scratching. Excellent preservation of the leather keeps the value toward the mid-to-high end of the range.

Market Analysis

Comparable demand stays strongest where maker, originality, and venue confidence line up. Broader examples still trade, but the range tightens quickly when provenance, condition, or selling lane fit is missing.

Value Drivers

  • Strong maker attribution with credible period details
  • Better-than-average condition for the category
  • Broader demand rises when presentation and finish feel intact

Concerns

  • Decorative-only demand limits the ceiling
  • Surface wear or missing provenance can compress the range fast
  • Regional sale lanes often underperform specialist venues
